![]() Linux is a joke as a gaming platform, and I don't expect that to change soon, don't let anyone tell you any different.īAD IDEA, but understandable for a Linux newbie. If I was, I'd definitely still have at least one Windows partitiion. I don't have any Windows partitions any more but I'm not that much of a gamer. This is because the Linux video drivers and the game code itself aren't optimised as well. even with the proper drivers you'll often find the fps much lower than the same game in Windows. You're going to be quite disappointed with Steam on Linux anyway. I'd just go into Driver Manager and install the recommended Nvidia driver then reboot. It doesn't matter about steam or whatever if it doesn't work on your machine, you'll have to wait for a proper update. There's actually very little backwards or forwards comatibility in Linux so just getting the latest driver from the mfr's site, while a no brainer in Windows, isn't a good idea in Linux. I have this problem with them all which makes me think it's not a driver issue.īAD IDEA, but understandable for a Linux newbie. So old drivers, current drivers and beta drivers. hold down the power button.Įdit: I guess I could try updating to the beta driver and see if that fixes it. Sometimes it's too frozen and Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't even respond and I have to hold a pillow over my laptop. When my PC does freeze up the only way I can get out of it is to Ctrl+Alt+F1, open htop, then kill VLC or Media Player. With new updated drivers I can now watch full screen video without tearing thanks to synchronization I tried every solution I could find after scouring the internet but nothing worked. One of the biggest turn-offs for me when it came to Linux was the full screen video tearing. I am using the latest stable release from the nvidia PPA.Īnyway, I have tried with older drivers, but I still get this issue. ![]() The recommended driver is far too old and doesn't support synchronization or Steam Proton.
